BizInsight Ribbon Menu and Toolbar

In Excel 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016, a new tab and ribbon will be added that looks like the following:

In Excel 2003, these options are provided via a BizInsight toolbar.

BizInsight Explorer – This button is used to open the Navigation Pane.  By default, the BizInsight add-in will not load automatically when Excel is first started. Clicking on the BizInsight Explorer button will load the BizInsight add-in and display the Navigation Pane.

Application Settings – This button provides access to several key configuration paths used by the application. See "Application Settings Fields and Features" for more detail about the fields and features of this dialog.

Data Caches – The Data Caches button provides information about your in-memory data caches.  This button will most commonly be used by BizNet Software Support.

Expression Editor – This button will open the BizInsight Expression editor tool. For more detail one how to use this tool, see "Expression Editor".

IMPORTANT  The Expression Editor only works in Excel 2007 or higher.

Offline – The Offline button allows a user to switch BizInsight to Offline mode.  When the button is clicked, the button will be highlighted to indicate that BizInsight is Offline and the right-click menu will display “Excel Refresh”.  Being Offline while working on a report design or re-working an existing report design can be helpful because you will not have to wait for BizInsight to retrieve data from the accounting system.

BizInsight is Offline when the Offline button is highlighted

While BizInsight is offline, all functions and analysis set objects in the report will be refreshed against what has already been cached in memory. To take BizInsight online again, click on the Offline button again so that it is not highlighted.

NOTE   The BizInsight toolbar in Excel 2003 will display "Online" instead of "Offline".  The functionality is the same.

If data is not already cached for a function or analysis set when performing an Excel Refresh, the function or analysis set object will display #OFFLINE or #VALUE.

Simply de-select the Offline button and perform a BizNet Refresh to retrieve data from your accounting system for these objects.

Save Changes to BizInsight – The Save Changes button allows Designer users to save changes they have made to the Navigation Pane such as adding templates.  If changes are made to the Navigation Pane but not saved, the following message will display when closing Excel:

Scan for Content – This button can be used to automatically copy and enable BizContent client files for the user.  When clicked, a process will launch that closes Excel, scans the directory specified by the Configuration Path in the Application Settings dialog, copies all BizContent client files found (.dll, .dna and .xll) to the local workstation and then registers the content files.  This option can be used to re-register BizContent add-ins if they have been unregistered as a result of re-registering BizInsight or Excel unexpectedly closing.  In addition, as new content packs are released, users can simply scan for new content once the new content files have been copied to the directory specified by the Configuration Path in Application Settings.

BizNet Assistant - This button provides access to various resources that are available to help with the BizInsight product such as automated help with common errors such as #VALUE and #NAME, online documentation, training, etc.

With the exception of the Resolve Issues Automatically and Contact Support radio buttons, all options will take the user to the applicable website.

The Resolve Issues automatically radio button will trigger a process that will resolve most #NAME and #VALUE errors for a user. Choosing this option will require a restart of Excel. Users will be given the opportunity to cancel the process and save their work before the process is run:

When choosing the Contact Support option, users will be asked if they want to try to resolve any issues automatically.

Choosing Yes will run the Resolve Issues process. Choosing No will take you to the online web submission form to report a support issue.

About – The About button displays the version of the BizInsight product, information about when your license expires and what BizInsight user type you have been assigned.  The Support Tools button can be used to access some important tools.  For more information about the available option using this button, see "Support Tools".

BizInsight comes with a 30 day trial period built into the product.  After installation, you have 30 days to work with the product without a license file.  The About dialog will display the date the trial ends.
